Itinerary
Your tour begins with an early morning pickup from your Puno hotel in time for a 6:45am departure. After a short transfer to the port, hop aboard a motorboat and set off across Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America. After a short boat ride, arrive at the Uros islands, extraordinary floating islands created using a base of buoyant Totora reeds. Learn more about the fascinating process of building and maintaining the raft-like islands from your guide, then step aboard to meet the local families and discover the unique culture and heritage of the Uros people. Admire their brightly colored clothing, watch demonstrations of local baking and handicrafts, and perhaps purchase some distinctive handmade souvenirs. Back on the boat, soak up the scenery and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere on the around 1.5-hour journey to Taquile Island, one of the lake’s few natural islands. Here, you’ll have chance to discover the fascinating culture of the islanders, which is protected on UNESCO’s intangible heritage list. Watch demonstrations of traditional weaving, see how natural dyes are made using vegetables and minerals, and admire the vibrant ‘Chumpis’ (wide belts) worn by the islanders. Finish your visit by enjoying a lunch of typical Peruvian food, before setting out on the return journey. Back in Puno, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.
